About
About LCS
I am a 3D, multimedia, and Web designer with a passion for all forms of design media, be they digital or otherwise. When I'm not experimenting with new creative and technical possibilities, I'm learning and integrating new tools and techniques into my workflow. Currently, I am seeking employment with a group of talented, good-natured individuals who share my enthusiasm for creative exploration and innovative design.
About the Website
This website started out as merely an exercise in implementing large-scale animated bitmap graphics in a Flash movie while generating as small a file size as possible. One thing led to another, and before long I had myself a finished website. Even now, the initial load for the site hovers around a modest 250 kilobytes. Considering the site's humble beginnings, the experimental nature of its development, and my limited coding ability, I'm pleased with the end result.

- Project Type - Trade Show Banner
- Date - 2011
- Software Used - Photoshop
- I designed this large-scale trade show banner with two variants for GenMover. It features a stock photo of a nuclear plant with minor painted extensions on both sides. Each banner image measures approximately 73" x 83" at 150 ppi resolution. The slideshow includes the full banner compositions, detail shots at 12, 25, 50, and 100 percent resolution, and the original stock photo.
- Project Type - Digital Matte Painting
- Date - 2010
- Software Used - Photoshop
- This was a personal project I undertook to practice matte painting techniques in preparation for more elaborate future matte paintings. I began by first compositing several of my photographs, then eventually adding set extensions on both sides to flesh out the composition. A graphics tablet was used extensively throughout the process. The slideshow includes the full composition, two details at film resolution, and several source images.
- Project Type - Stitched Photo Panorama
- Date - 2005
- Software Used - Photoshop
- This was part of my senior art project for college, which, along with my other "Stitched Landscape" piece and my "Fusion Fission Unity Division" video art piece (seen in the "Video" section of my portfolio), won "Best in Show" at the college senior art show. The image is a near 360 degree panorama, which measures approximately 56" x 16" at 300 ppi resolution, and is composed of over 50 images I shot with my cheap digital camera. The slideshow includes the full composition, as well as details at 25, 50, and 100 percent resolution.

Video
My fascination with video spans all aspects of the medium, whether it's filming, editing, and compositing, or integrating motion graphics, effects, and sound. This collection features a sampling of my projects and experiments with video.
- Project Type - 3D Character Animation
- Date - 2011
- Software Used - After Effects, Maya, Photoshop, Vue
- This one minute long 3D animation featuring my concept creature Dregoth (described in more detail in my portfolio's "Graphics" section) was a personal project I made to practice 3D character animation techniques in preparation for more complex future projects. The scene takes place at night in a ruined stone temple on top of a mountain. I modeled the temple in Maya and used Vue to create the background terrain. In addition, I experimented with Maya fluids in creating several special effects, including fire. Given time constraints and the limited resources of my laptop, only low resolution fluid effects and simple lighting solutions were used. Although far from perfect, this project has given me valuable insight into the challenging nature of 3D character animation. Coming soon - Sound effects and music.
- Project Type - Video Presentation
- Date - 2011
- Software Used - After Effects, Cinema 4D, Premiere, Soundbooth
- For this, my second video project for GenMover, the objective was to condense video of a nearly 3 hour long generator maneuvering procedure down to the span of roughly one minute. Nearly six hours of provided video footage was edited down then condensed into a time-lapse presentation of the desired length. Additionally, I created a 3D motion graphics title, provided background music (courtesy of Soundbooth scores), and prepared the video to be hosted online.
- Project Type - Video Presentation
- Date - 2010
- Software Used - After Effects, Audition, Premiere, Soundbooth
- For this project for GenMover, a nuclear generator alignment service, I was given a script and some handheld video footage, and asked to create a compelling promotional video presentation. To that end, I performed video and audio editing, created motion graphics, provided background music (courtesy of Soundbooth scores), recorded a voice-over, and set up a basic Web page to host the video online. As per the client's request, the video footage was edited in such a way as to give only a basic overview of the service without revealing any sensitive details about it or the facilities in which the footage was shot.
- Project Type - Video Art
- Date - 2005
- Software Used - Premiere, Cakewalk Home Studio
- This experimental video art piece was part of my senior art project for college, which, along with my "Stitched Landscape" photographs (seen in the "Photo" section of my portfolio), won "Best in Show" at the college senior art show. It features footage I shot with a cheap video camera from some of my travels, as well as original music I produced specifically for the project.

Audio
Whether it's laying down tracks, crafting a nice mix, manipulating sound, or just blissfully jamming on my keyboard, music never fails to rock my world. Although I've composed many melodies, this collection features a small sampling of my experiments with music recording.
- Project Type - Digital Music
- Date - 2009
- Software Used - Audition, Sonar
- This song was a personal project I undertook to experiment with my new studio equipment. I used a MIDI keyboard for the instrument tracks, and yes, that is me singing (or attempting to, anyway) the vocal tracks.

Graphics
Modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, dynamics, rendering - each presents its own litany of challenges, but I find that the myriad of creative possibilities available with 3D makes the extra effort infinitely rewarding. This collection features a sampling of my ventures into the realm of 3D graphics.
- Project Type - 3D Model
- Date - 2011
- Software Used - Maxwell Render, Maya, Photoshop
- I modeled this Fender Stratocaster guitar as a personal project to practice creating photorealistic images for product visualization. The geometry was modeled in Maya and rendered using Maxwell Render.
- Project Type - 3D Concept Character Model
- Date - 2011
- Software Used - Maya, Photoshop, UV Layout, ZBrush
- This is Dregoth, a concept creature I designed, modeled and detailed in 3D, and rigged for animation as a personal practice project. The accompanying animation can be viewed from the "Video" section of my portfolio. For the project, I began with some rough concept sketches, modeled a base mesh in Maya, detailed and textured it in ZBrush utilizing a graphics tablet, built a custom control rig, and finally made a brief animation. Legend has it that Dregoth is the lone surviving descendent of the mighty Dreovari, an ancient and mysterious race rumored to be of both dragon and human ancestry. While many dismiss the Dreovari as ruthless demon spawn filled with malice and terror, there are some who believe that the Dreovari were deeply misunderstood creatures, possessing the physical prowess of dragons balanced with the conscience and emotions of humans.

Web
Whether it's designing layouts and graphics, devising rich interactivity, integrating multimedia, or crafting clean code, I relish all facets of Web design (okay, maybe not the code so much). This collection features a sampling of my Web design endeavors.
- Project Type - Flash Website
- Date - 2010
- Software Used - Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop
- I designed and developed this website for a local artist and professor in need of a portfolio website to exhibit her work. The design, as per the client's request, was simple (yet elegant), so as not to distract from the artwork. The website is Flash-based, featuring XML-driven dynamic content, three levels of progressive enhancement, and some modest search engine optimization. In addition, I retouched and color corrected many of the provided photographs.
- Project Type - HTML Web Page
- Date - 2010
- Software Used - Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop
- I created this basic HTML5 Web page to host the promotional videos I created for GenMover (the videos can also be viewed from the "Video" section of my portfolio). The default video player is Flash with an intro screen and option for closed captioning, while HTML5 videos are included as alternate content for non-Flash users. As well, styling to support tablet devices is included.
